Nurse-Family Partnership looks ahead

During a special board meeting Aug. 6, the Siuslaw School District board of directors voted unanimously to appoint Suzanne Mann-Heintz to fill board position 6, replacing Scott Salisbury who resigned from the board in June.
Mann-Heintz took the oath of office during the Aug. 13 regular board meeting. She will serve the remaining 10 months of Salisbury's term.

Canine remembered for healing presence

Local celebrity Robbi, a 12-year-old greyhound, died Aug. 5 of age-related causes. A therapy dog since 2008 until her retirement last year, she visited scores of local schoolchildren, nursing home residents, hospital patients and staff. She was also the first therapy dog for Peace Harbor Hospice.

Tropical sea turtle found on South Beach

Tourists walking along South Beach near parking lot 2 on South Jetty Road discovered a sea turtle on the beach Wednesday. The turtle was most likely an olive Ridley or green sea turtle, according to Dawn Harris of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in Newport.

Banner Corp., a Walla Walla, Wash.-based company, announced Thursday that it has purchased Siuslaw Financial Group, the parent company of Siuslaw Bank.
