MARKLEIN—Raymond “Ray” James Marklein of Florence died Aug. 14, 2008.
Upon moving to Florence, Ray was quickly adopted into a new “family.” Ray proudly served alongside his brothers and sisters of Siuslaw Valley Fire and Rescue as a firefighter/engineer. Ray fell in love with the fire service and proudly served his community for over 4 years.
“The loss of our fellow brother is felt by all that knew and loved him, and we will honor him with every emergency that we respond to.”
Ray is survived by a daughter, Chelsea Marklein of Florence; father, John Joseph Marklein of Arkansas; mother, Ramona Goldberg of Tennessee; a brother, Sean Joseph Marklein and sister-in-law, Allison, and two nephews, Dane and Kayden; a sister, Janelle Lynn Carruolo, and brother-in-law, Rudy and niece, Kyleen; brothers and sisters Sam Marklein, David Marklein, John Marklein, Josh Goldberg and Heather Marklein; and two grandmothers, Grandmother Goslyn and Grandmother Lynn.
“We have lost a father, son, brother, uncle, grandson, nephew and friend to many. Our loss is heaven’s gain. From the moment Ray was born, his crystal blue eye’s sparkled and his smile brightened the world. Ray loved the outdoors, and enjoyed spending time with animals, skiing, dirt biking, horseback riding, camping and the ocean.”
A candlelight memorial service will be held on Sunday, Aug. 24, at the Heceta Head Beach just below the Heceta Head Lighthouse. The family asks that those attending arrive by 7 p.m and bring a candle. Those unsure of the location can meet at Siuslaw Valley Fire and Rescue, 2625 Highway 101, Florence, and follow Ray’s brothers and sisters to the Heceta Beach Day Area.
In lieu of flowers, contributions will be accepted for a memorial fund in Ray’s name. Contributions may be left at the celebration of Ray’s life or with Burns’s Riverside Chapel Florence Funeral Home. Arrangements by Burns’s Riverside Chapel Florence Funeral Home.
