Carl Monroe Gray

GRAY — Carl Monroe Gray passed away July 28, 2009 in Florence. He was born on March 13, 1926 in San Pedro Calif., to Charles LaVerne and Anna May Rathun Gray. He grew up in Idaho Falls, Idaho and graduate from Idaho Falls High School. He later served in the U.S. Army during WWII in Europe. Carl owned and operated Carl Gray Tire Co. for over 30 years.

He enjoyed fishing and hunting and in his later years, traveling in his motor home. In 1950 he married Tacyann Knowles and later divorced.

In 1986 he married Bernice Gulick Kaster and they truly enjoyed their retirement years together by wintering in Queen Valley, Ariz. and spending summers in Wyoming and Idaho. In 1999 they relocated to Florence due to Carl’s health and have enjoyed living here ever since.

Carl is survived by his wife Bernice “Bea” of Florence and his five children, Teresa and her husband David Halley of Payson, Utah; Richard and his wife Tamie Gray of Idaho Falls, Idaho; Leslie and his wife Roseann Gray of Shelley, Idaho; and Scott and his wife Vicki Gray of Idaho Falls, Idaho and Jeanette and her husband David Phillips of Mesa, Ariz.; one sister LaDean and her husband Harmston of Idaho Falls, Idaho; two step-children, Judy and her husband Robert Holsclaw of Boise, Idaho; and Stephen Kaster of Beaverton, Ore.; 20 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Carl was preceded in death by one sister Lois McCracken.

A memorial celebration will be held in Carl’s honor on Saturday Aug. 1 at 11 a.m. at the Florence Community Baptist Church, with a memorial internment to be held at a later time in Idaho Falls, Idaho.

Burns’s Riverside Chapel Florence Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
