General election to include seats on Dunes City council
Posted: Tuesday, Jul 27th, 2010

The council for Dunes City will have a number of vacancies that will be up for election on November 2010 ballots.

Seats currently being held by Mayor Eric Hauptman and Councilors Peter Howison, Richard Koehler, Susie Navetta and newcomer Troy Sathe will be open. Their terms expire at the end of 2010.

Rebecca Ruede and Jamie Mills hold their positions until 2012.

As of press time no one had officially submitted applications. Mayor Hauptman and Richard Koehler have stated they are considering re-running, but have not decided.

Dr. Peter Howison confirmed that he will run again for another term.

“I hadn’t planned on it,” said Howison, “but things are coming together and we have broader support.”

Howison explained that he appreciates the leadership Mayor Hauptman has provided and that the council has seen solid accomplishments in the city, notably the recent business license requirement and major land use decisions. He intends, he said, if reelected, to follow up more closely on approved development to ensure proper completion of projects.

Council vacancies are: the mayor’s seat, a two-year term; three city councilor positions, each a four-year term; and one city councilor position for a two-year term.

Candidates seeking a position on city council must be residents of Dunes City, file a petition with at least 20 supporting signatures, and submit their applications by Aug. 24.

Candidate filing packets are currently available at Dunes City Hall, 82877 Spruce St., Westlake; phone 541-997-3338.
