80s Night

It was great time for those who recently attended the 80’s fundraiser event for Boys and Girls Club of Western Lane County and Eric Tanikawa’s 50th birthday.

A stylishly attired Bob Sneddon of KCST radio directed the event and music selection, with Sneddon donning a powder blue leisure suit and custom blond mullet. Music included selections from Prince, Journey, Metallica, Madonna and Michael Jackson.

Appearances were made by by “Axel Rose,” “Cyndi Lauper,” “Gene Simmons,” “Prince and company,” “The Flight Crew from Top Gun,” “Pat Benatar,” “Michael Jackson” and look-alikes from the movie “Desperately Seeking Susan.”

Mid-evening entertainment included a special scene from “Risky Business” by Tanikawa, and an impressive break dancing solo by New Kid on the Kingwood Block, Dr. Justin Linton.

The party also included an appearance by the local Launderettes, winners of the 2012 Fraud Ville Lip Sync Contest.

“Late June is a great time of year to slip on some leg warmers, grab that old rocker t-shirt, dust off or shape up the mullet and have a party,” said Amy Tanikawa, Eric’s wife, who helped organize the event.

The goal was to raise enough funds to send 50 children to summer day camp. The event raised more than $4,500. Since it costs $60 for a child to attend the club for one week during the summer, the fundraiser will pay for approximately 75 children to attend a week of club this summer.
