This Saturday marks the second annual Power of Florence, with activities, fundraisers and projects going on around town to show the power each individual can bring through volunteerism to make the community a better place to live.
This event is the brainchild of 11-year-old Kaylee Graham, a true example of inspirational leadership, and has been proclaimed by our mayor as an annual event each year on the third Saturday of July.
Florence Area Humane Society will be participating in this day with a number of events. Volunteers will be selling hot dogs and hamburgers, holding a “Stuff the Van” for collecting pet food for the community, selling lavender and showing adoptable kittens.
Author Carolyn Parker will also be on hand to autograph copies of her book, “Squeaky’s Farm.” Sales for all these events, including book sales, go to support the animals housed at the Florence Area Humane Society Shelter. All the FAHS events will take place at the Grocery Outlet parking lot or inside the store.
Check inside today’s Siuslaw News (page 9A) for a listing of Power of Florence events offered July 21.
