Believing that volunteering never starts too early, Kiwanis International sponsors the Builders Club for middle school students, which worldwide involves about 40,000 students in 1,300 clubs in 18 nations.
Local Kiwanis Adviser Clara Kuhn said 21 Siuslaw Middle School students are currently members of the student-led club, which emphasizes leadership and community service. Involvement also builds self-esteem and empowers students once they learn they are capable of helping others.
“We have a great group of kids this year, but we can always use more,” added Kuhn.
