Community works to fill Christmas baskets

Posted: Friday, Dec 7th, 2012

Soroptimists Carol Bennett, Jo Hine, Jan Nieberlien and Carole Manigold are collecting food and toys from participating businesses throughout Florence.

Soroptimist International of Florence, in partnership with Florence Food Share, will hold the annual Community Christmas Basket Project toy distribution on Friday, Dec. 21, at the former Oldfield’s store site on Highway 101 in the Grocery Outlet shopping center.

The food distribution will be on Saturday, Dec. 22, at Florence Food Share at 2190 Spruce St.

Although Soroptimist sponsors, organizes and raises funds for the event, local service clubs, churches, businesses and community members donate funds and help with the preparation and distribution of the toys and food. Soroptimists have been bestowing this gift on the community for more than 30 years.

People who want to donate toys are asked to donate new, unwrapped toys for children ages ranging from infant to 12 years. Toys may be left at 15 sites around the community.
