Siuslaw High School teachers and administrators nominated five outstanding individuals from the student body as potential Florence Future First Citizens. From those five, Todd Denning was named this week to receive the traditional award.

Denning, son of Melissa and John Barnett, has a 3.95 GPA, is active in Key Club, National Honor Society and Interact, in addition to participating in cross country and working as a real estate office assistant.

The Future First Citizen award will be bestowed on Denning at the annual Siusaw Awards, hosted by the Florence Area Chamber of Commerce, on Wednesday, Jan. 16. He will also receive a $500 scholarship.

The four students nominated in addition to Denning are Alexandra Dodson, Annaliese Henry, Jade Herbert and Janessa Mitchell, all worthy of recognition.

Dodson, whose parents are Tim and Mary Dodson, also carries a 3.95 GPA and is involved in Interact, Key Club, National Honor Society and other groups. She participates in the Viking Hour on local radio station KCST and has worked at a local nursery.
