Sea Lion Caves, a roadside attraction bringing thousands of visitors to the Florence area for more than 80 years, took home the top honor Wednesday at the sixth annual Siuslaw Awards banquet, winning the Stu Johnston Business of the Year award.
The recognition, however, was bittersweet.
Stu Johnston, for whom the award was named six years ago, died last month from congestive heart failure at age 87. Johnston was a civic leader whose family founded the Johnston Motor Company in Florence.
