Realizing dreams

Modified: Friday, Jan 25th, 2013

Andrew and Britny Dollahite are presented with an afghan made by Habitat for Humanity volunteer Ed Patterson, who also built the cabinets for the couple’s new home. Emery Dollahite, left inset, is excited about the family’s move.
“Andrew and Britny had a dream of having their own home ... where Emery could go outside and play and be safe,” said Ginny Kelly during the dedication ceremony for the Dollahite family, who received keys to a new Florence Habitat for Humanity house last Saturday.

The Nopal Street residence, part of the Keener Place subdivision, brings the count to 22 homes constructed by volunteers and community partners throughout the local area.

“Those of you here are part of that dream because you worked with Britny and Andy to build this home with your money, time, hammers, nails, paints, wood, food … but mainly, it’s about people who care,” said Kelly, who, along with volunteer Paula Harrison, served as a “family partner,” guiding the future homeowners through the process.
