The current condition of Highway 101 is posing a threat to the economy of Florence businesses, according to a recent letter from the Florence Area Chamber of Commerce to the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT). The letter, signed by Chamber Board President Cindy Wobbe, was sent in January.
Wobbe points to the state’s role in improving the Siuslaw River Bridge as well as the Heceta Head Lighthouse as progress that truly benefits the area.
“Both of these investments ... will pay dividends to the state and its enterprising businesses ... for years to come,” Wobbe stated. “The missing link, we fear, is one that poses a threat to the economy of those businesses that make their home in Florence. We believe that improving the highway through our town would not only improve our local economy, but would be an investment that serves the entire state.”
