Deadwood residents prepare to state case to keep post office hours

In 2011 when the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) announced 3,700 post offices were being scrutinized for possible closure because of financial crisis, the people of Deadwood learned theirs was on the list. They didn’t roll over and play dead; they fought back with meetings and rallies and by contacting their legislators. Now they are once again prepared to fight.

“Saving our post office was an issue that everyone came together on, no matter their politics or religion. It didn’t matter, they all agreed,” said local organizer and retired schoolteacher Les Benscoter.
