It took two scores of volunteers to dish up the annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner Thursday to more than 400 people at the Elks Lodge on 12th Street. Florence Kiwanians provided the bulk of the force and they were joined by family, friends, Elks and folks from Food Share to get the work done. The team worked past 2 p.m., seating guests, cooking, serving, bussing tables and washing dishes. So many dinners were served that there was almost no food left for the workers. Food Share provides a grant to help the Kiwanis Club and foundation to purchase food and supplies, but guests brought more contributions that filled six boxes of food and more than $1,200 in cash. The menu included turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, yams, mixed vegetables, rolls, beverages and apple and pumpkin pie.For the complete article see the 11-30-2013 issue.
