In terms of weather and rainouts, it’s been a bummer for the Three Rivers Sandblasters “boys of summer,” who have had nearly as many games delayed or canceled as they have actually played so far this season.
However, the ’Blasters have been on a roll at the Medford Tournament, which began Wednesday. TR kicked things off with a non-league match-up against the Springfield Titans. In that game, Jake Thompson, who has been playing for the Gold Panners in Alaska, returned to the mound for the Sandblasters in relief for the win, 7-5.
After a short break, the Sandblasters were back on the diamond, this time at Grants Pass, in a pick-up game later that afternoon against the Nuggets.
The ’Blasters had a solid four-run lead heading into the sixth inning.
