Siuslaw: 48 S. Umpqua: 18
The Vikings opened the league season on the road at South Umpqua last Friday in a game that got off slowly offensively for Siuslaw, then ignited with a 28-point blitz by the Viks in the second period. From there, Siuslaw never looked back.
And neither did junior Sam Johnson, who breached the end zone three times against the Lancers.
Johnson had a pair of of 20-plus-yards TDs in addition to a four-yard carry across the goal line. The Viking junior provided Siuslaw with its first score late in the first quarter, catching a 29-yard pass from Jake Thompson for the TD. A PAT from Ryan Smith put the Viks ahead 7-6.
Less than three minutes into the second period, Thompson scored on a one-yard quarterback keeper, with Smith adding the extra point.
