Remembering Coach Reavis

Clint McClellan used these terms in describing his friend, fellow coach and Siuslaw alum Delbert Reavis during Friday’s memorial service, which filled the Siuslaw gym as the community gathered in memory of the popular coach, who passed away in late December.

“Football was his lifeblood,” McClellan said of Reavis, who not only played for the Vikings in the mid 1980s along with McClellan, but also coached the JV program to its first-ever undefeated his last season. “He had a gift for working with kids, and for pushing those around him to their very best.

“His wit, one-liners, songs and quotes let everyone know where they stood, what they could do better, and what kind of mood he was in. If he was singing ‘Rock You Like a Hurricane, it was going to be a good day.”
