Vikings lose close one in OT

Posted: Tuesday, Feb 12th, 2013

Viking juniors Sam Johnson and Mitchell Butler bring the ball down for Siuslaw. Butler had 16 points against Brookings in an overtime loss to the Bruins.

Though the Viks fell to Far West rival Brookings Friday night in the Bruins’ den, the league remained in a three-way tie for third place last night between Siuslaw, Brookings and South Umpqua.

Siuslaw had a chance to knock the Bruins into fourth place on Friday after a late rally gave the Viks their first lead of the game. The Bruins had other ideas, reclaiming the lead in the final seconds, but not before sending Jake Thompson to the freethrow line for the final possession.

Thompson, who had 22 points on the night, drained the tying basket to send the game into overtime, but Brookings was able to move ahead and hold on for a narrow 78-27 win.
