Ten Viks to advance

Viking senior Ryan Connor won the Far West League heavyweight division and was named Outstanding Wrestler for the upper weight brackets at district.

The Far West District meet in North Bend was full of upsets this past Saturday, and the Vikings were doing the lion’s share of upsetting. At the end of the day, 10 Viking wrestlers landed top-four finishes, including individual league championships for Isaiah Burkhalter at 113 lbs., Hayden Miles at 152 lbs.,and Ryan Connor at 285 lbs.

“The team had amazing performances at district,” said Siuslaw coach Neil Wartnik, who will take 10 wrestlers to the regional meet at the Skyline conference this Saturday. “It was an outstanding day for our boys, with all but one moving on for a chance to compete at state.”
