Three Siuslaw National Forest Volunteers were recognized for their efforts to help maintain the Central Coast Ranger District Trails program.
Florence local Jim Archer, and Yachats residents John Cooper and Dhan Rai, each received plaques of appreciation from Region 6 Headquarters for their outstanding contributions to the Forest Service Volunteer and Service program for the Pacific Northwest.
Archer served more than 160 hours of hard labor in 2012 to help keep the Cape Mountain Horse Trails and Sutton Trail systems open year round for visitorís enjoyment.
Cutting out downed logs, hacking back the non-stop encroaching brush, cleaning out trail drains and digging through small landslides has been a regular chore for Archer over the years on the Florence area trails. Archer has organized others to help with his trail maintenance efforts, and his leadership has made a positive difference in how visitors see our Florence area trails.
