New golf coach, familiar Viking pride

Siuslaw graduate Aaron VanDeHey in a room full of donated golfing equipment for what he hopes will be a growing SHS program again.


From 2004 to 2007, Aaron VanDeHey played an integral part of a successful Viking golf program that captured two Sky-Em titles and four consecutive finishes among the top four at the 4A boys state golf tournament.

Siuslaw’s appearance at the state tournament each year, as well as its run for the district crown in both the Far West and Sky-Em leagues, was a given for nearly a decade under the direction of coaches Art Weston and and Pat Zahner, who oversaw the program from the 1990s through 2008.

The Viking gold program once boasted both a varsity and JV team for girls and boys, with players competing for spots during practices each week before tournaments on Monday.
