The Mapleton and Siuslaw equestrian team is looking for any students, grades 9-12, who are interested in participating in the upcoming school year’s equestrian season.
“So far, we have a great group of kids for the season,” said coach Trisha Geddes, “including a couple returning athletes.”
The equestrian team competes at three Oregon High School Equestrian Teams (OHSET) events, in Febuary, March and April, with the opportunity to advance to state competition if they advance at the district level.
Riders can compete in several individual and team events, from cows, to show events and gaming.
“There are also events we compete in as a team,” says Geddes.
Team members must have their own horse or access to a horse.
“The skill level doesn’t matter. We love to help kids learn how to do the events,” explains Geddes. “We will start practices in December and will hold weekly practices.”
Though practices don’t begin for several months, fundraising will get under way within the next few weeks. For the complete article see the 06-26-2013 issue.
