Bill Sadler, a Florence resident for the last eight years, built nearly 30 sports and open-wheeled racecars back in the 1950s and early 1960s.

Among them was a production run of 12 Sadler Formula Junior racecars built by Sadler at his shop in 1959.

The Formula Junior class had just been formed to provide upcoming racers with a reasonably low-cost venue to begin their racing careers.

Last July, Sadler was able to buy a genuine example of one of his Sadler Formula Junior racecars. The severely rusted car had been badly neglected and needed a total frame-up restoration.

While investigating the provenance on this car, Sadler discovered that it was serial No. 2, which had been owned and raced by Brock Yates, who later became senior editor of Car and Driver Magazine.
