First responder for wishes

Though 23-year-old Chris Rupp’s 6,000-mile Make-A-Wish Foundation cycling journey began May 28 in Seattle, Wash., his journey as a firefighter began long before that when, as an eighth grader, he watched firefighters sift through the rubble of the fallen Twin Towers in 2001.

Those images, and stories of the valiant efforts of firefighters that he heard in the days, months and years that followed, continued to fuel his desire to make a difference by serving his community in the fire service.

When he graduated from high school in 2006, Rupp joined his hometown fire department within a week of receiving his diploma.
