Posted: Friday, Sep 14th, 2012

TILLIS—Dolores Aileene Davis Tillis, 81, of Reedsport, passed away Aug. 23, 2012.

Dolores was born Jan. 21, 1931, in Polson, Mont., to George and Minnie Davis. She grew up in Polson and, in 1948, became the first one in her family to graduate from high school. She attended Western Montana College in Dillon, Mont., where she met the love of her life, Edward S. Tillis.

They were married Aug. 12, 1950, in Dillon, Mont. They moved to Reedsport in September 1956, when Edward took a teaching job.

They had three children: Geane, Christina (stillborn in 1958), and Joseph.

Dolores, or “Dodie” as she was called by her many friends, was an active parent, being the room mother for her children’s classrooms, always making sugar cookies and brownies.

She joined Three Rivers Rebekah Lodge in Reedsport on Aug. 12, 1958. She was an active member for more than 54 years. She was past president of the FL Clubs of Oregon, and past president of the Oregon Department Ladies Auxiliary Patriarchs Militant.

Dolores was a life member of all branches of the Odd Fellows and Rebekahs.

She worked at Lower Umpqua Hospital for 20 years in the dietary department. She could often be found creating crocheted items during her breaks. Her hands were always in motion. After retirement she continued to create items that she donated to organizations to use as raffle items.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Ernest Davis; and a grandson, Peter Schaaf.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Edward; daughter Geane Schaaf, of Reedsport; her son, Joseph Tillis; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, Dolores requested that donations be made to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.

Memorial services will be held Monday, Sept. 23, beginning at 2 p.m., at the Covenant United Methodist Church, 3520 Frontage Road, in Reedsport.

A private burial service will be held prior to the memorial at Reedsport Masonic Cemetery.
