WOOD—James “Woody” Wood, 83, of Swisshome, peacefully and quietly departed this life and returned to heaven on Oct. 3, 2012.
Woody, a long-time close friend and companion of the late Alice Rickman, lived in Swisshome for many years.
Born in 1929, Woody served his country, retiring after more than 20 years of honorable and patriotic service in the U.S. Air Force.
During his military career, Woody achieved the rank of tech sergeant, a rank historically considered the second most difficult non-commissioned officer rank to achieve, and the most difficult promotion that career Air Force members ever achieve.
A logger, fisherman, hunter, friend and patriot, Woody lived quietly in retirement, always giving and never taking.
He offered his friendship and his life’s stories to all who might listen and asked for nothing in return.
He enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest, especially in the company of his friends throughout the Siuslaw River valley.
Burns Riverside Chapel is handling arrangements for burial. Interment will be at the Willamette National Cemetery.
