POWELL—Effie Dolores (Cis) Powell, 81, of Florence, passed away on Nov. 8, 2012.
She was born Dec. 9, 1930, in Fairbury, Neb., to Bob and Hulda Sturm.
In 1955, Dolores and her husband, Glenn, moved from Powell, Neb., to California. She was a member of the Lemoore Presbyterian Church and served as a deacon.
She was also instrumental in starting the Presbyterian Women’s Faith Circle Bible Study group. During the 40 years in Lemoore, Effie sold Avon, was a Robinette, belonged to the hospital auxiliary, and wrote articles for the Hanford Sentinel. She even managed to take a class in college and aced it.
Dolores and Glenn have lived in Florence since 2004 and have been attending the Methodist Church.
Dolores was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Glenn Powell Jr.; five children: Glenda Ryall, Vicki Miguel, Cheryl Young, Paula Miguel-Frederiks and Glenn Allen Powell, along with their spouses; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; a brother, Don Sturm; an aunt, Bobby Welch; and her sister-in-law, Donna Willcoxon.
A memorial service will be held at the Presbyterian Church in Lemoore, Calif., on Dec. 2, at 3 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, contribution to a favorite charity can be made in Effie’s name.
Burns’s Riverside Chapel Florence Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
