Marylou (Mills) Earle

Posted: Tuesday, Mar 12th, 2013

EARLE—Marylou (Mills) Earle, 85, of Cushman, passed away March 8, 2013.

Marylou was born in Goshen, Ore., at a family friend’s house, to Jo and Robert “Dee” Mills. They brought her home to Acme, Ore., which later became known as Cushman.

Although it was the Great Depression, Marylou had a fun childhood as the youngest of four children. The family lived in, and helped take care of, the hotel owned by her grandparents, Chet and Mary Southworth. Many stories have been told of Marylou’s antics around the hotel.

In 1947, she married Jim Earle and they built a house across the street from her parents. She loved to visit with her many friends and relatives.

She was a member of several clubs and ran her own ceramics studio. She enjoyed taking care of her yard and flowers, and made hundreds of corsages for dances, meetings and weddings. She also worked for Western Lane Hospital as an aide and ambulance attendant.

She loved gambling, with Reno, Nev., as her favorite destination. Everyone knew when they dropped by, house-rules card games would be played.

Other than a few years in Alaska with her second husband, Wesley Earle, she lived her entire life in Cushman.

She is survived by her husband, Wes; her daughters, Connie Lucker (Michael) of Salem and Shannon Shepherd (Mark) of Sisters; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Marylou was preceded in death by her first husband, James A. Earle; a son, John D. Earle; a brother, Robert D. Mills Jr.; and sisters Jean LaDuke and Betty Jo Anderson.

Burns’s Riverside Chapel Florence Funeral Home is arranging burial at Pacific Sunset Cemetery.

A private family service is being planned.
