LEABO - Kenneth A. Leabo, 91, of Florence, passed away Aug. 9, 2013.
He was born in Portland, Ore., on Aug. 31, 1921, to Archie and Bessie Leabo, and moved to Albany, Ore., in 1927.
Kenny joined the National Guard while in high school and was mobilized in 1940, serving in the South Pacific. He married Betty Lyone prior to going overseas and was discharged in 1945, when he began working in logging and driving heavy equipment. He joined EWEB in 1964 and retired in 1984, moving to Florence in 1985.
He was a VFW five-time post commander and a district commander, as well as a 30-year member of the Elks, life member of DAV, past Moose member, past Eagle member and past Grand Com. of Honor Degree of the VFW.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years.
He is survived by his daughter, Kenny Jo; grandson Merrill and wife Keley; great-grandchildren Grace and Henry; grandson Stephen; brother Dale and wife Jackie; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Aug. 16, at 11 a.m., at Burnsís Riverside Chapel Florence Funeral Home.
Private interment will be at Pacific Sunset Cemetery.
