ROSSóRoy Arthur Ross, formerly of Florence, passed away Nov. 20, 2013, in the veteranís hospital in Palo Alto, Calif.
Roy was born Nov. 4, 1929, in Philadelphia, Pa., to Howard Watson Ross and Ethel Kate Blake Ross.
Roy was raised on the North Fork of the Siuslaw River and went to school at the Portage School. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1950 to 1962.
He married the love of his life, Virginia Mae Hawkins, in January 1953. They were blessed to have many years together, and with those years came many blessings.
They had five children, three of whom were born while they were stationed at different locations.
The first was Frank Allen, born in Africa. James Arthur was born in Portland, and then came Timothy John, born at Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield, Calif.
Their youngest two children came after Roy was out of the service: son Val was born in Florence, while their youngest and only daughter Rose was born in Eugene.
Also surviving are daughter -in-law Sharon; son-in-law, Tracy; grandchildren: James, Nathan, Tera, Justina, Tyler, John, Andrew, Kaitlyn, and Jason Roy; and five great-grandchildren: Riley, Mckennah, Camren, Kaylee, and Cassius.
Roy is blessed to still have his younger brother, Bruce, to have shared the last few moments with, which meant the world to him.
He is also survived by numerous nephews and nieces, great-grandnephews and nieces which are too many to mention by name; they all know who they are.
Funeral service will be held Monday, Dec. 2, at noon, at Burnsís Riverside Chapel Florence Funeral Home.
Private interment will be held at Pacific Sunset Cemetery.
