GARDNERóBernice Aluina Gardner, 84, of Florence, passed away Sunday April 13, 2014, from complications of rheumatoid arthritis.
Bernice was born in East Gardiner at home to John and Lucretia Perry on July 8, 1929.
Bernice was married 52 years to Raymond Deerwood Gardner from Bellingham, Wash. They raised three children and built their home together.
Bernice was a lifelong resident of the Reedsport area, a homemaker, super baker and she loved her siblings, children and grandchildren surrounding her.
She was a caretaker for her parents, and in later years for her husband Raymond. She worked at IGA Bakery, Stockade Motel and Win-chester Bay seafood cannery.
She was funny, shy and passionate. She had great patience, remarkable wisdom, and was the foundation of her family.
She shall be remembered for her beautiful smile and gentle soul that was given to everyone.
Bernice is preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Deerwood Gardner; her parents, John and Lucretia Perry; a brother, Robert Perry; and a sister, Virginia Bratten.
Bernice is survived by two brothers: Chester Perry of Sutherlin, Ore., and William Perry of Eureka, Calif.; two sons: George Gardner of South Beach, Ore., and Jesse Gardner of Florence; one daughter, Nancy Gillem, also of Florence; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
The family wishes to extend its gratitude to the Florence PeaceHealth Hospice for its care and support in her final days.
A memorial service will be held at United Methodist Church, 333 Kingwood St. in Florence, on April 30, at 2 p.m.
Burnsís Riverside Chapel Florence Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
