Just shy of 100 graduates said goodbye to Siuslaw High School when the class of 2012 held its graduation ceremony Friday night, June 8.
More than the usual number of speakers were scheduled because of the class’ large number of high-ranking students, which resulted in three valedictorians walking up to the podium to speak as well as one salutatorian and the outstanding boy of the year. Ann Watkins spoke once, but held the distinction of being both valedictorian and outstanding girl. Principal Matt Henry and Vice Principal Andy Grzeskowiak also addressed the crowd.
The high school’s jazz band performed an arrangement of movie scores by John Williams. After the valedictory speeches, Billy Jones played the guitar as Jessica Alletson Gauna sang “I’m Yours.”
Siuslaw School board members Scott Salisbury and Roger Johnson handed students their diplomas. For the complete article see the 06-13-2012 issue.
