A memorial service will take place at 10 a.m. today, June 23, at the Forest Grove Assembly of God Church, 1523 Pacific Ave. in Forest Grove.

Military honors and interment will take place at Mountain View Cemetery in Forest Grove following the services.

Bill was born Nov. 14, 1926, in Willamette, Ore., and was raised in Portland by his parents, Donald and Violet M. (Oliver) Siddall, along with two brothers and a sister.

Bill enlisted into the U.S. Navy and served his country as a medical corpsman during World War II. He was attached to the U.S. Marines 5th Division and saw action on the island of Iwo Jima in February 1945, and served as part of the occupation force in Japan until his honorable discharge in 1946.

They then moved to Forest Grove in 2007; Marjorie died on May 28, 2008.

Bill continued to live in Forest Grove until he settled at Cornell Estates Assisted Living Center in Hillsboro, eventually moving to Arbor at Avamere in Newberg for advanced care.

Raised during the Great Depression, Bill started working at a young age. Before he enlisted into the military, he worked as a welder in the shipyards in Portland.

Following the war, Bill was employed in the timber industry and was a lead mechanic for Davidson Industries in Mapleton, Ore., retiring in 1988.

Among his interests were camping and traveling in his RV. He was also a hunter and a fisherman. He enjoyed painting, woodworking and golf after his retirement.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Marjorie; his parents; his sister, Blanche Lawrence; and a brother, Victor Oliver.

Survivors include his daughter, Marilyn, and her husband, Ron Lindsay; his daughter, Shirley, and her husband, Pete Fisher; a son, Steve Siddall; his daughter, Roberta Hogeland, and Shirley Hill; a son, Richard, and his wife, Bridget Siddall; a brother, Donald Siddall; 16 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
