The Ambrosio family, formerly of Darlings Resort, has purchased the Twin Lakes Store north of Florence on Highway 101.
The store has reopened after a brief two-week closure in June.
“The shelves are filling up with product, but it will take a little while to get fully stocked,” said Vicki Ambrosio, who is now running the store.
Dusty and Sandy Ambrosio have retired and are still in the area. Vicki, their oldest daughter, is running the day-to-day operations of the store with her father, Dusty, who is taking care of the property and all the improvements they have planned.
“We have the liquor license and most other permits,” Ambrosio said. “However, we are unable to take food stamps until our paperwork gets approved.”
The store quietly re-opened July 1, with no fan fare. The official grand opening is scheduled for Saturday, July 21, from 12 to 4 p.m. There will be grilled hot dogs and oysters served to shoppers that day.
“I know that sounds like an unusual combination,” says Ambrosio, “however, grilling oysters on the half shell has always been our kind of thing.
“Locals who know us have loved our annual barbecues, and I’m sure our new neighbors will be thrilled as well.”
For all who want to know, the Ambrosios have kept longtime employee Karen Crowder on staff.
“Karen has been a lifesaver for me,” says Ambrosio. “She is such a hard worker and has a heart of gold. The community has been so concerned about her future and it has been a pleasure to watch everyone come in with hugs and to congratulate her on not having to disrupt her life.”
Jokingly, Ambrosio insists, “The best thing about Karen, besides her ‘hyperactivity’ and excellent work ethics, is we seem to be on the same page with ideas for this place.
“She is excited about all the pending changes just as we are, and has offered many great ideas for the future for implementing things this community could really use.”
Tim, the chainsaw carver from Mystic Woods, is also remaining on the property.
Twin Lakes Store is located four miles north of Florence, on Highway 101, just before Sutton Lake.
Hours of operation this summer are Monday through Saturday, 7 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., with Sunday hours of 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
