DUNES CITY — With an eye toward the Nov. 6 general election, a total of five candidates have already thrown their hats in the ring.
So far, four residents hope to capture three Dunes City council seats, incumbents Jamie Mills and Ed Scarberry, whose terms expire in January, and Maurice Sanders and Ronald Tucker.
Sanders retired as chief of police for the Florence Police Department at the beginning of this year. He currently serves on Dunes City’s budget and revenue committees.
Tucker, a retired information technology professional, serves on the Road Commission.
Mayor Rebecca Ruede, at this point, is the sole candidate for mayor. She was appointed to the post following the resignation of Eric Hauptman in April 2011.
Subsequently, Scarberry was appointed to fill Ruede’s council position.
City Councilor Richard Koehler’s term also expires in January. He has not yet indicated whether he will run for any office.
The remainder of the standing council, Richard Anderson, Troy Sathe and Duke Wells, hold terms that expire in 2015.
