Siuslaw sets pace at state preview

Posted: Tuesday, Sep 25th, 2012

Siuslaw senior Katy Potter led the girls race, winning it 42 seconds ahead of second place.

The Siuslaw cross country team got a sneak peek at the state course on Saturday as the Vikings competed in the state-preview style North West Classic at Lance Community College in Eugene.

The course is the same one runners will face during the state meet this November.

Siuslaw, ranked among the 4A’s top 10 teams in both divisions — with the boys’ team at the top of the coaches poll — utilized the meet as a chance to measure itself against some of the best runners in the state within any division.

Senior all-state runner Katy Potter breezed through the course, winning the 4A girls’ division in 19:11, a full 42 seconds ahead of second-place Nevina Deluca of Phoenix.
