SHEPARDóRose Ellen Shepard (Gordon), 61, of Mapleton, peacefully passed away Sept. 10, 2012.
She had bravely been battling her second bout of cancer for the past 2-1/2 years.
Rose was a lifetime resident of Lane County, born in Florence on Oct. 4, 1950, to Ray and Bonna Gordon (Perkins).
Rose was raised in Deadwood, Ore., with her surviving siblings: Rick Gordon, Bruce Gordon, Dianna Kent, Cora Crossen and Betty
Rose was an avid community volunteer and helped organize both school and community activities, such as the annual Christmas party and Rhododendron Parade entries.
For the past 20 years, Rose worked as a rural mail carrier and postal employee, covering many different mail routes in the Mapleton and Florence areas. It was work she enjoyed. As her routes changed and increased, so did her circle of friends, continuing to expand ever wider every year.
Rose remained active as a driving force in the lives of her family and friends until the end.
She will be remembered for her kindness, generosity and dedication to those she loved, which include her family, both immediate and extended, and the Mapleton and Florence community where she lived and worked.
Her husband of 34 years, Jarl Shepard, preceded her in death.
She is survived by two daughters: Melony Teague and Andrea Holloway; six grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Roseís name to the Willamette Valley Cancer Research Foundation.
A celebration of life will be held Sunday, Oct. 7, from 2 to 5 p.m. at Camp Lane. The event will be pot luck, with drinks, entrees and desserts furnished, but please bring an appetizer or side dish.
Due to limited parking, carpooling is strongly recommended.
