Army of ambassadors

Posted: Friday, Oct 5th, 2012

Lorall Phillips-Woerner and her two pugs, Hot Rod and Peggy Sue, regularly stroll Bay Street and Old Town.

Peggy Sue and Hot Rod like to walk the port’s boardwalk and campground. They have other favorite spots plus they like to hike and hit the beach. They are regulars in Old Town, their own little parade. Along with their owner, the human in charge of the reins, Lorall Phillips-Woerner, the threesome almost appear to be on a mission.

Lorall likes to meet people and “I’m using my dogs to do it,” she says readily. “They (the dogs) make it very easy to talk to people.”

The dogs are pugs, small but mighty. They love people too and are happy to meet and greet. They know every corner and doorway along Bay Street, and they know who has treats and who sets out water bowls. And none of the three is shy.

“I consider myself a goodwill ambassador. I try to always be helpful,” Lorall says as she recounts a handful of people she met recently, to whom she offered directions, recommendations and a little insight into the town of Florence — as well as the opportunity to meet two very friendly little dogs.
