Good endings to Halloween night searches for missing men

Posted: Friday, Nov 2nd, 2012

Two men in unrelated incidents were reported missing on Halloween, one south and one north of Florence. After enduring a stormy night, both were found alive the following day.

Bill Sathe, 69, of Dunes City, went mushroom picking on Oct. 31 with his son, Troy. They started out from County Line Road, south of Florence, and decided to split up and meet back at the vehicle at a set time in the afternoon.

The elder Sathe did not return.

A large group of friends, Siuslaw Valley Fire and Rescue volunteers and Douglas County patrol, search and rescue, and four-wheel drive units conducted searches.

Before noon on Nov. 1, a family friend from Newberg located Sathe, who was checked by emergency medical personnel before returning home.
