It was moving day on Wednesday for the U.S. Forest Service office in Florence. Employees and services have now relocated to offices in Waldport and Reedsport.
Joni Quarnstrom, public affairs officer for the Siuslaw National Forest, said there were three main reasons for closing the local office for the Central Coast Ranger District/ Oregon Dunes.
“Some of our key employees in Florence retired, our lease is expiring, and we really wanted to be more cohesive and work together, instead of being spread across three offices,” said Quarnstrom.
Out of the three employees who were working at the Florence location, one will work in Reedsport and two in Waldport.
Recreational passes used on national forests and the Oregon Coast Passport, for federal and state recreation areas along the entire length of Highway 101, are still available for purchase in Florence at Bi-Mart, The Sportsman and Florence Yamaha. For the complete article see the 11-03-2012 issue.
