Learn about plans for OHV travel on dunes

Posted: Thursday, Nov 8th, 2012

Comments are currently being accepted for the draft Environmental Impact Statement for the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area off-highway vehicle 10 (C) Designated Routes Project.

“As a way to listen, share and help inform about the project, we are planning an open house for those interested in learning more about off-highway vehicle travel within designated routes on the Oregon Dunes NRA,” said Michele Jones, Central Coast and Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area district ranger.

The open house is in the Siuslaw High School gymnasium at 2975 Oak St. in Florence, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., on Saturday, Nov. 17.

The format features stations to visit with forest staff and view maps and alternatives describing options for designated riding routes.

Specialists involved in developing the draft Environmental Impact Statement will be available to answer questions regarding the project.

The primary purpose and need for the project is to complete the designation and development of a comprehensive, understandable designated off-highway vehicle route system that can be effectively managed and maintained with the MA 10 (C) areas of the ODNRA.
