After hammering Ridegview before a hometown crowd a week ago to advance to the second round of 4A state football competition, the Vikings were on the road this past Friday for a rematch with La Salle — the team Siuslaw finished second to in last year’s state championship.

Coming into Friday’s match-up, the Falcons were at 7-2, with their only major loss coming at the hands of Philomath. Siuslaw, on the other hand, had felt the sting of just one loss so far this season after getting edged out by North Bend at the close of the Far West season. The loss denied the Vikings the FWL crown and forced them onto the gridiron in the first round of state play-offs, rather then having a bye and potentially hosting La Salle in round two.

Friday, the Falcons made the most of their homefield advantage, getting off to a quick lead on a short field goal after the Vikings fumbled away their first possession on their own 28-yard line.
