Compared with communities farther up the coast, which suffered major road closures and were hit with winds up to 100 mph, Florence was fairly unscathed after a storm that swept the Oregon Coast Nov. 18 and 19.
Sixty-mph winds were reported in the local area, downing trees and causing power outages, most lasting only an hour or two. Heavy rain caused localized flooding on some streets, which dissipated in most areas by Monday night.
“We lost (power in) the north part of Florence from 35th Street all the way to Sea Lion Caves about midnight Sunday. It was all picked up in about an hour,” said Gary Nieborsky, operations manager for Central Lincoln PUD. “We lost most everything south of the Siuslaw River Bridge due to trees, but we had almost everybody picked up by 5 p.m. Monday.”For the complete article see the 11-21-2012 issue.
