Many shoppers passed through Grocery Outlet Saturday, Nov. 17, and most seemed happy to drop off a box or a basket filled with food to help stock the shelves at Food Share. More than 6,400 pounds of food were collected, which will be matched by Gene and Cindy Wobbe. The event is known as a “pounding,” an old-fashioned term that once referred to bringing food and supplies to a neighbor in need. Volunteers from the Florence Area Humane Society also participated in the event, sharing information about the animal shelter and cooking up hot dogs and hamburgers to raise money for the society.For the complete article see the 11-21-2012 issue.
