Heceta Water District’s Board of Commissioners is inviting its customers to speak out about whether or not the district should pay the fee to the county for holding an election.
The amount of the fee depends on voter turnout and could be more than $24,000.
Lane County Commissioners recently informed the district that a fee to cover costs must be paid before the county can allow any elections.
A group of Heceta Water customers have petitioned the county to hold the election to change the district from a “special district” to a “people’s utility district” (PUD). The change would affect all of HWD’s customers and only the water utility.
Petitioners have stated that that a PUD would protect residents in the urban growth boundary from annexation by the city of Florence, as well as its water supply while allowing water commissioners to plan for the future. For the complete article see the 11-24-2012 issue.
