A horde of hard-working volunteers pulled kitchen and floor duty Thanksgiving Day, serving almost 340 meals to holiday diners. During the evening $996 and 214 pounds of food were collected for Food Share. The annual event, which seems to grow in size every year, was organized by the Kiwanis Club and held at the Elks Lodge. Food Share is a major sponsor through a grant from Kiwanis. River Cities Taxi provided transportation to many Florence residents. Volunteers from each of these agencies and from the general community, pitched in to ensure all felt welcome and well fed. Above, Hal Weiner and Colin Grist load up plates of traditional Thanksgiving fare: turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy and mixed vegetables. There were pumpkin and apple pies for dessert.
