Nationwide, 89 million people shopped on Black Friday, which is the day after Thanksgiving and the traditional beginning of the holiday shopping season. Locally, retailers reported they enjoyed a busy Black Friday.
“It was a great day, but it is always a great day for us,” said Sadie Ward of On Your Feet with a Splash in Old Town Florence.
“We didn’t open up early, but we had mystery prizes throughout the day,” said Ward. “Our customers expect that.”
At the local Sears store, people were lined up outside when doors opened at 4 a.m. The most popular items were tools and appliances, followed by TVs, said storeowner Tom Sneddon. Customers kept arriving until closing at 6:30 p.m.
“It was very steady all day long,” Sneddon added.
Amber Kempema, store manager at Fred Meyer, said 400 customers entered the store at its early 5 a.m. Black Friday opening. For the complete article see the 11-28-2012 issue.
