Following a lengthy executive session Thursday night to review a document and speak with the city’s attorney, Dunes City councilors unanimously decided during open session to table “indefinitely” any action on a proposed new septic ordinance, No. 218.
The proposed ordinance calls for the repeal of the current ordinance, 203, and establishes a voluntary education program. No. 203 mandates initial and periodic septic inspections.
The last time the council repealed 203, the Woahink Lake Association and Oregon Coast Alliance (ORCA) filed an appeal with the Land Use Board of Appeals and won, which reinstated 203. Defending their decision cost the city about $23,000.
Members of WLA and ORCA have suggested the city can expect another appeal if they once again repeal 203.For the complete article see the 12-15-2012 issue.
