The local Camp Fire Club delivered gift-wrapped boxes to Siuslaw Elementary School (SES) on Dec. 14, to be given to K-12 students who are homeless. The boxes were filled with such essential items as toiletries, plus games and other “fun” gifts.

“What a wonderful donation,” said SES Principal Michael Harklerode. “Each box was labeled by age and gender.”

“We couldn’t have done it without help from the community. The Ladies of Elks gave us a huge donation of supplies and money to cover what we needed,” said the club’s leader Mary Bossen. “Heceta RV Park was nice enough to donate their meeting hall so we could store supplies, sort items and put the boxes together.”

Bossen’s three children, Amber, Amy and Sean Moore, make up the majority of the little Camp Fire Club, which was formed when the family moved here in March and found there was no club in Florence. The name for the local chapter is Tufted Puffins Camp Fire Club.
