Despite fewer funds this year, more than 400 food boxes were distributed Saturday for the annual Community Christmas Baskets project at Florence Food Share, providing food for hundreds of local families this holiday season. Dozens of volunteers turned out to help with the food distribution, which is sponsored by Soroptimist International of Florence in partnership with the emergency food pantry. Hundreds of Florence-area children also benefited from the project’s toy distribution Friday at the former Oldfield’s store site on Highway 101. For more than 30 years, Soroptimists have sponsored, organized and raised funds for the event, in addition to local service clubs, churches, businesses and community members who continue to donate funds and help prepare and distribute toys and food.
